The short version
- Anonymous letters carry no link back to you. Not even we can recover it.
- If you create an account, we keep only what we need to run it.
- We don't sell your data. We don't use third-party advertising trackers.
- You can export or delete your account whenever you want.
What we collect
If you're signed in: your email, chosen username, password (stored hashed, never in the clear), and the letters you write. We log basic technical info — like IP address and browser type — to keep the service secure and to diagnose bugs.
If you write anonymously: we store the letter text and the topic you chose. We don't store an account link or any identifier we can use to tie that letter back to you.
How we use it
- To show your letters back to you, and to surface public letters to others.
- To send email reminders you've set on sealed letters.
- To keep the service running, secure and free of abuse.
- To send occasional newsletters — only if you opted in at sign-up. You can unsubscribe from any of those emails in one click.
Who we share it with
We share data only with the third-party services we need to run A Little Letter — for example, our hosting provider and our transactional email provider. They process data on our behalf and aren't allowed to use it for anything else.
We'll only disclose your data to a legal authority where required to by law.
How long we keep it
Letters and account data stay until you delete them, or until you delete your account. Server logs are kept for up to 30 days. Anonymous letters stay published until you ask us to remove a specific one — since we can't link them to you, that means contacting us with the letter ID shown on the post.
Your rights
You can access, correct, export or delete your data at any time from your profile, or by emailing us. If you're in the UK or EU, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.
Cookies
We use a small number of first-party cookies for things like keeping you signed in and remembering your preferences. We don't use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.
Children
A Little Letter isn't designed for people under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, please let us know and we'll remove it.
Changes
If this policy meaningfully changes, we'll let signed-in users know. Continuing to use A Little Letter after a change means you accept the new policy.
